American Express credit card bill payment can be made using both offline and online methods. Offline modes include cheque, draft, courier, etc., and online methods include NEFT, BillDesk, UPI, etc. Paying off credit card dues online includes benefits like instant payments, coins, cashback, discounts on brands, flexible payment options, and an autopay facility. In this article, we will be discussing various methods of making American Express credit card bill payments. But, before that, let us consider the prerequisites while making the card payment.
Prerequisites while making American Express Credit Card Payment:
Below are the prerequisites that should be considered whenever you Apply for American Express Credit Card:
- Credit card bill payments can be made from the bank account held in the name of the Primary cardholder.
- Payments made to an Indian-issued Amex card held by an NRI must be made only through the NRE/ NRO account in the Primary card member’s name.
- American Express shall not be liable for any process nor provide any guarantees/ warranties for any payment made by a cardholder through a mode that is not present on the American Express website or App.
Different Modes of Amex Platinum Credit Card Bill Payment
Mentioned below are the different modes to make American Express Platinum Credit Card bill payment:
1. UPI
Below mentioned are the steps to pay the American Express credit card bill via UPI:
- Login to the UPI-enabled mobile banking app.
- Select “Fund Transfer”.
- And then select the “VPA option”.
- Enter VPA-AEBC<15-digit card number beginning with 37>@SC.
- Enter the amount to be paid.
- Proceed further by entering UPI Pin.
If the payment is initiated before 5 pm, the amount will be credited to the Amex credit card by the next day, provided that day is neither Sunday nor a Public Holiday.
Note:
- Subject to timely processing by the cardholder’s bank.
- A reference provided for weekends includes working days that fall on either a Saturday or a Sunday of any given week, which is notified by the RBI or by any other relevant authority.
2. NEFT
Cardholders can make credit card bill payments with the help of the NEFT facility and get their dues settled. Below mentioned are the steps for the same:
- Register the Amex credit card as a payee in the bank account using the following details:
- Payee Name: American Express
- Payee Account Number: Complete the 15-digit card number (starting with 37)
- Payee Account Type: Current
- Bank Name: Standard Chartered Bank
- Branch Address- Standard Chartered Bank, NarainManzil, 23 Barakhamba Road, New Delhi 110001
- IFSC Code: SCBL0036020
- After the process of adding the payee is completed, select the same and enter the amount to be paid.
- Proceed with the Fund Transfer and authorise the transaction with the help of an OTP.
- The same will be credited in the next 24 hours.
1. Autopay/ NACH
Consumer Cards: By enrolling with Autopay mode, the amount due or minimum due amount will be auto-deducted by Amex every month (as specified in the enrolment form). The same would be deducted from the bank account nominated via the National Payment Corporation of India’s National Automated Clearing House.
- Online Enrollment: Cardholders can apply for the Autopay option to get their credit card bills paid on a monthly basis with the help of the Online Enrollment Form. This process normally takes 5 business days to complete.
Or
- Paper-based form: You should choose the form to be enrolled for Autopay on the type of American Express card based on the cardholder’s card, i.e., Charge Card AutopayEnrollment Form or Credit Card Autopay Enrolment Form. This process normally takes 3-4 weeks.
Cancellation:
The cancellation process may take 5-6 business days to get completed. The payment, unless already paid, will still be auto-debited for the already generated statement.
Corporate card members
Corporate card members can enrol for Autopay from their bank account and get the card account credited with the amount due in the monthly statement through the NACH option introduced by NPCI.
1. Online Payment
In the case of Internet Banking, cardholders are given the option to pay their bills via Bill Desk. Below mentioned are the steps for the same:
- Enter the 15-digit American Express Card Number.
- Re-enter the card number so as to avoid any mistakes.
- Enter the 10-digit mobile number and e-mail id.
- A payment confirmation will then be received on the mobile number and the e-mail ID.
- Enter the amount of the bill to be paid.
- Select the bank account from which the bill is to be paid.
- It will redirect automatically to the cardholder’s internet banking portal.
- Login with the help of a Customer ID and your password to authenticate the transaction.
Also, American Express provides some other ways to make online payments via:
- Unified Payments Interface (UPI) (BHIM -UPI)
- Debit Card powered by RuPay
- Unified Payments Interface Quick Response Code
The payment will then be credited within 1-2 business days, subject to the bank’s processing time. This mode of bill payment allows cardholders to make payments from any place and at any time.
2. Drop boxes
Amex has provided drop box options at several locations. Cardholders can draw a cheque/ draft in the same way as mentioned above in the case of a courier and drop the same in the nearest drop box. Before dropping the same, cardholders must check for Amex stickers on the Standard Chartered Drop Boxes. Below mentioned is the address for dropping the cheque/ draft:
